Modern vehicles have a very aggressively designed suspension geometry. They are designed this way to drive effortlessly, handle well and give less “rolling resistance” for better fuel economy. Unfortunately this is not usually the best design for tire life. Tires can start to wear unevenly in as little as 2000 miles even with a vehicle that is aligned perfectly. The best way to combat this wear is proper inflation and tire rotation. Improper tire balance can also lead to unwanted vibration and can aggravate the already prevalent uneven wear. An out of balance tire can be compared to a home ceiling fan that shakes back and forth for the same type out of balance condition as an automotive tire. Tire rotation changes the direction the tires roll and tends to cancel out uneven tire wear. For this reason we recommend a tire rotation and balance about once per year.
